Mrs. JoAnna Ray Byrd, 65, of 211 Woodbine St., Hopewell, Va., entered into her eternal rest on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, at 4:30 a.m. A native of Fairfax, Va., she was born on Oct. 20, 1947, to the late Raymond and Gertrude Tasco of Surry County, Va.

JoAnna was baptized and saved at the Church of All Nations, Surry County, under the pastorship of Elder G. W. Bell.

Mrs. Byrd attended Surry County Public Schools and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High

School in 1966. Soon after graduating from high school, Mrs. Byrd was employed by Allied Chemical Synthetic Fabric Division and Firestone Synthetic Fabric Division. She later became employed as a school bus driver for Surry County Public Schools. She went on to work and to retire from Hopewell City Public Schools. All who knew her knows that her most important career choice was that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Byrd leaves to cherish her memories: a very loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Mr. Louis Ray Byrd Sr. of Hopewell; two sons, Louis Ray Byrd Jr. (Cynthia) of Poconos, Pa., and Nathan A. Byrd Sr. (Annette) of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Kimberly Green (Timothy), of Hopewell, and Sadreka Byrd, also of Hopewell; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosanna Brooks (James) of Dinwiddie, Va., and Joanne Crockett of Prince George, Va.; three brothers, Raymond Jones (Joyce), Ricky Thomas (Sheila), all of Hopewell, and Raymont Tasco (Lee) of Hampton, Va.; brothers- and sisters-in-law to include, Helen and Earl Guillory of San Antonio, Texas, Myrtle and Joseph Holloway Sr., of Spring Grove, Va., Oscar Byrd Sr. and Phyllis Byrd of Hopewell; Langston Byrd of Petersburg, Va., Sheila Lewis of California; and several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Church of All Nations in Surry County, with Elder Joseph Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
