John Epps Obituary

John Leroy Epps Jr. (Sonnybuck) departed this life on Jan. 1, 2010, at his residence.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1947, to the late Viola Bolden and Johnnie Epps.

He attended Sussex County Schools. He was employed at Seward Luggage and retired from Masonite (International Paper) after 37 years of service. He was also a member of the Free Mason Waverly Lodge #70.

John was a hard-worker and a loving friend to all he came in contact with.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Hattie Epps; two sons, John Epps III (Kim), Derek Epps of Courtland; and daughter, Virginia Epps (Anthony); five grandchildren, Tamika Drew, Janda Harrison, VaTrese Myrick, Derrick Epps and Jada Epps; a brother, Lewis Bolden (Catherine), Waverly, Va.; two sisters, Barbara Hunter (Tom), Chesterfield, Va., and Elaine Morgan (Wayne), Petersburg, Va.; three brothers-in-law, Macneal Mason (Brenda), James Mason (Minnie) and Jimmy Joe Mason, all of Camden, N.J.; one sister-in-law, Joann Raymond of Hampton, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends, among them three devoted friends, Clyde Vaughan, Donzell Chambliss and Raymond Parham, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Union Hill United Church of Christ, Sedley, Va., with the Rev. Roy Stokes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends will assemble at the residence at noon. The remains will lie in repose at the church on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
