Dr. John Milford Diggs of Midlothian, departed this life for eternity on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. Dr. Diggs was born on Jan. 9, 1930, in Disputanta, to the late John A. and Fannie Brown Diggs. He was also preceded in death by: his three sisters, Louise Chester, Mary Kemp, and Ethel Arvin.

After graduating from Prince George County public schools and serving honorably in the U.S. Air Force, he continued his education by earning his undergraduate degree at St. Paul's College and graduate degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Diggs, a retired educator and administrator, served for many years at Southside Virginia Training Center, Petersburg; Dinwiddie County public schools; Saint Paul's College, Lawrenceville; and Norfolk State University, Norfolk.

He also served on numerous boards and commissions and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Southside Virginia Chapter of the Connecting Links, the Boulé (Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity) and Trinity Episcopal Church, South Hill.

Dr. Diggs leaves to cherish his precious memories: devoted wife of 52 years, Dr. Virginia Farrar Diggs; dedicated daughters, Mrs. Sheila Watters (Jeffrey) of Midlothian and Ms. Sandra Diggs of Westerville, Ohio; two adoring grandchildren, Amanda and Johnathan Watters of Midlothian; a loving sister, Mrs. Beatrice Diggs Watson of Petersburg; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Annie Farrar Walker of South Hill; and many devoted nieces; nephews; cousins; friends; colleagues; and former students.

Services for Dr. John M. Diggs will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Saint Paul's Memorial Chapel, 115 College Drive, Lawrenceville (on the campus of Saint Paul's College), the Rev. Harry Nevels officiating and thte Rev. Dr. Terrence Walker, eulogist. Interment to follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery, South Hill.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the funeral establishment.
