Mr. Jonathan I. Gay, known to his family and friends as "Bing" or "Jig," entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his home in Wakefield, Va.

Jonathan Gay was born to the late William Robert and Estelle Gay at Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va., on Nov. 15, 1974. He was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1992.

Jonathan worked in numerous jobs, the Virginia Diner and Uppy's in Wakefield, and Sonic in Suffolk, Va. He loved to cook.

Jonathan is proceeded in death by his mother and father, William and Estelle Gay; an older brother, Michael Dennis Gay; grandfathers, Early Stringfield and Will Gay; grandmothers, Daisy Stringfield and Blanche Gay; and two beloved nieces, Pamela Thornton and Valerie Hill.

Jonathan leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Jonathan Gay Jr. and Julius Gay; three sisters, Christine Hill (Elisha) of Waverly, Va,, Estelle Thornton (John) of Surry, Va., and Rosa L. Gay of Wakefield, Va.; three brothers, William Gay Jr. of Smithfield, Va., Donald L. Gay of Wakefield, Va., and Melvin E. Gay of Windsor, Va.; two nieces, Stephanie Gray (Mandel) of South Carolina and Michael Paige (Anthony) of Virginia; three nephews, Jeffery Gay, Tyrell Gay and Melvin Gay Jr., all from Virginia; nine aunts; four uncles; great-nieces and nephews; a beloved and devoted friend, Tiffany Fleetwood; and a host of cousins and friends.

Services for Mr. Gay will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Mars Hill A.M.E. Zion in Wakefield, Va., with the Rev. Zillicofer officiating. Interment to follow immediately at Booker T. Memorial in Wakefield, Va.
