Joseph Rosario Obituary

Born in New York City, N.Y., and raised in New Bedford, Mass., to Gertrude Rosario and Joseph J. Rosario Sr., Joseph J. Rosario Jr. was an honorable and loved man.

His career in the military spanned from Korea to two tours of duty in Vietnam as a platoon leader. He traveled the world and received numerous honors and medals, including National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, two times Good Conduct Medal, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Bronze Star and two Oversees Service Bars.

He was a graduate of Officer's Training School in Fort Benning, Ga., and two times graduate of the U.S. Army Transportation School. as well as The Defense Race Relations Institute. He was just this year honored repeatedly by both the Veterans of Foreign Wars with a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding dedication and by the Commanders Club of Disabled American Veterans as a Silver Leader.

His outstanding civil activities included judge advocate of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 622, American Legion Post 146 and his most cherished, Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 47.

Married twice — his first wife, Sylvia E. Rosario (nee Snow) gave him three beautiful children: Andrea Maria, 51; Dana Angelle, 49; and Lita Teresa, 48. His second born, Dana, blessed him with three grandchildren, Andre Dewayne, 21; Andrew Keith, 19; and Lita Angelle, 15. His second marriage to Arrhelia Zenobia (nee Williamson) gave him three more beautiful and loved children: Frank, 37; John Joseph, 32; and Antone Elia, 27.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave., Hopewell, Va. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at the Fort Lee Memorial Chapel. Repass immediately following service at American Legion Post 146, City Point, Hopewell Va. Interment will be Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, in Arlington National Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at www.nelsencares.com.
