Mrs. Jovina Harris, affectionately known as "Virgie," was born in Tablas, Romblon (one of the Philippine Islands). She was born on Jan. 15, 1937, and was the daughter of Juan Manalon and Lucia Gadon. She was the youngest of 12 children.

She was married to John Henry Harris, a 26-year United States Air Force veteran, on June 15, 1966, in the Philippines, a marriage celebrated for 46 years.

She is the mother of two daughters, Dolly Hardman (Ezell, spouse), Jeannie Franklin (Eric, spouse); three sons, Rodelio (Del) Manalon (Debbie, spouse), Richard Manalon (Gemma, spouse) and John Harris, Jr. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Other areas of residence include Clark Air Force Base, Philippines; Great Falls and Kalispell, Mont.; and Tacoma, Wash.

She has lived in Petersburg, Va., since 1988 and was a long standing member of the Tri-Cities Filipino-American Association Chapter (Fil-Am). She loved gardening, cooking, entertaining, knitting, a little bingo and spending time with her family. She was a skilled seamstress and loving caregiver. She had strong money sense to include financial planning and investing; and friendly counselor/advisor. She was very compassionate and her joy was helping people. She believed in Jesus Christ and dedicated her life to expressing support and love. She was always willing to listen to a story, share advice, help those who were down on their luck, and encourage her loved ones. A hard-worker herself, she has always valued saving, friendship, effort, family and humbleness. As a loving and devoted friend, wife and mother, her expressions of love through her cooking, friendship and hospitality will live forever in our hearts.
