Mr. Kevin Townsend, 53, of 9189 Terry Woods Lane, Birdsnest, departed this life Saturday, June 15, 2013.

Kevin was born March 12, 1960, at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He was the ninth child of the late Mary Lee and James London Townsend. Also, preceding him in death were: three sisters, Darlene Townsend, Joann Brown and Alta Townsend; a niece, Jalessa Townsend; and two nephews, George Brown Jr., and Ronald Lewis.
He was educated in the New York Public School System, after completing high school he joined the U.S. Navy in November of 1978. Kevin served for 20 years and earned the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class and received many awards to include the Good Conduct Medal.
He was an active member at Elemendorf Reformed Church in New York, until he moved to Virginia to become a member of Calvary Rival Church. He participated in various fellowships within the church. His strong faith and love for the Lord remained until his untimely death from this earth.
He leaves to cherish his memory: four children, Joel, Kevin Jr., Kennneth Isaiah, and KayVanna Marie Darlena Townsend; one granddaughter, Abrianna Zoel; his loving fiance, Nettie Jewel Ferebee; three brothers, James and Robert Townsend, of New York, and Ricky Townsend of Virginia; six sisters, Dorothy Hemphill and Linda Townsend, of Maryland, Bernice Knight of Virginia, Barbara, Mary-Ann and Gloria Wigfall (Daryl), all of New York; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine and Nicole Townsend; 27 nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; four cousins to include, one cousin he loved like a brother, Ricky Frazier; and a host of other relatives; and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, 1500 Arlington Road, Hopewell. The Rev. Dr. Robert Barnes will officiate. The interment will follow in the Virginia Veteran's Cemetery, Amelia.
The family will assemble at 11:15 a.m. prior to the hour of service at the chapel.
