Mr. LaMartrea Otis Byas known as "Marty," was born on Aug. 14, 1942, in Philadelphia. He passed away at the Hospice Retreat in Richmond, on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.

Marty worked as a police officer in New York City Hospital for many years before moving to Chesterfield. There, Marty worked as a security officer for four years at Virginia State University. He started working for driving cabs for AAA & Marshall Taxi Company. Marty loved being in uniform and was very proud of his credentials.

He loved joking, singing, and especially his wrestling. Marty was a member of First Baptist Church of City Point, Hopewell, where he sung in the choir. He was also a member of the Neighborhood Watch #312 - Hopewell.

Marty was predeceased by: his two sons, Kenneth and Martin; father, Belvyn Byas Sr.; mother, Jeanne Byas; and his eldest sister, Miranda.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Pamela Byas; sons, Steven Jackson and DeJuan Dodson (Rashasela); daughters, Mylocka James (Joe), Nyesha Dodson (Tiffany), Desiree Deramus (Markus) and Peaches Williams; and 19 grandchildren.

Marty also leaves his siblings to cherish his memory, Belvyn Jr. (Audra), Ceylon, Tonya (Kim) and Teke (Stephanie); one goddaughter, Ah'mya Brown; and a host nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends to include a very devoted friend, Jan Boyce.

Services for Mr. LaMartrea Otis Byas will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
