Mr. Langston Nathaniel Byrd, of 135 Culpeper St., Petersburg, Va., entered into his eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at his residence.

He was a native of Surry County, Va. As a teenager, Langston was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit at Church of All Nations, Surry County, Va., under the pastorship of Elder G. W. Bell.

Mr. Byrd attended Surry County Public Schools and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School in 1967. He was an excellent basketball player and loved all sports. Langston also studied computer science at John Tyler Community College. Soon after graduating from high school, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam. Before serving in the military, Langston was employed by Brown and Williamson Tobacco factory in Petersburg, Va. He returned to his employment at Brown & Williamson upon his release from the military.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnie and Myrtle Byrd of Surry County; two siblings, Carol O'Quinn (Tommy) of New York and Louise Byrd of Hopewell, Va; and sister-in-law Joanna Byrd of Prince George, Va.

Mr. Langston Byrd leaves to cherish his memories five siblings: Helen Guillory (Earl) of San Antonio, Myrtle Holloway, (Joseph) of Surry County, Oscar Byrd (Phyllis) of Hopewell, Va., Louis Byrd of Prince George, Va., and Sheila Lewis of Hemet, Calif. Mr. Byrd also leaves to cherish many happy memories his extended family, Ms. Letecia Davis and Keandrea Cody, whom he considered to be his daughter and granddaughter, and longtime friend, Clareatha Davis. Mr. Langston Byrd will be missed by a host of family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Church of All Nations in Surry County, Va. Elder Joseph Shaw will officiate and conduct the eulogy. The burial ceremony will be immediately after in the church cemetery.
