Mr. Larry Wardell Green peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, May 16, 2013. He was born on March 15, 1948, in Sussex County, to Caleb and Gertrude D. Green. He was baptized at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church.

He attended Riverview High School, Courtland. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968. After being wounded in 1969, he was medically discharged and attended Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton.

In 1971, he rejoined the USMC and in 1983, he was honorably discharged. From 1995 to 1998, he was employed as a forklift operator at Franklin Equipment, Franklin. From 2001 to 2003, he was employed as a doorman/messenger for Dorchester Hotel and at Wellington Apartments, both in Philadelphia.

While serving in the U. S. Marine Corps, he received many awards and honors: the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Citation, Navy Accommodation with Combat V, Vietnam Service Medal/3-Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Expedition Medal, Vietnam Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation/with Star, Good Conduct/with Stars and 10-year service award. He was a member of the VFW Post #3090.

Larry was preceded in death by: his parents, Caleb and Gertrude Green; brother, John Jasper Green; and three sisters, Lydia G. Taylor, Everlean G. Jones, and Lou Jones.

He is survived by: three brothers, Caleb B. Green (Edith) of Hampton, Melvin T. Green (Cora) of Navelock, N.C., and Ronald E. Green of Yale; two sisters, Annie Little Solomon (Anthony) of Petersburg, and Helen V. Green of Yale; a longtime devoted companion, Lorraine Shaw of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces; nephews; and cousins.

A funeral service for Mr. Larry W. Green will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 14502 Rivers Mill Road, Capron, the Rev. Edith Green, eulogist. The interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

The family will assemble at 1 p.m. the day of the services and receive friends at 19136 Rivertown Road, Yale.
