Lee Saunders, 50, of Belspring, received his reward of eternal peace Saturday, June 1, 2013 after a long and courageously fought battle with brain cancer.

Lee was born Aug. 23, 1962 in Radford, and grew up in Hopewell, where he demonstrated his talents in baseball and football and most importantly his genuine character of friendship.

After graduating in 1980 from Hopewell High School, Lee returned to Radford to attend college and began working for UPS, from which he retired in 2001.

Lee's unwavering love and commitment for his family and friends inspired all who knew him and ignited a legacy of compassion, generosity, unselfishness and bravery. He will be greatly missed by all.

Lee was predeceased by: his grandfathers, Leonard Lee Albert, Desmond Saunders, and Alton Rawlings; and uncle, Leonard "Butch" Albert; and grandmother, Alice Bishop.

He will be forever cherished by: his loving wife, Tammy Bishop Saunders; son, Channing Saunders; father and mother, Desmond Saunders Jr. and Norma Jean Albert Saunders; sister, Tracy Saunders Zikes and John Plott; brother, Jamie Saunders, all of Radford; grandmothers, Ida Saunders (Radford), Lorine Rawlings (Powell's Point, N.C.); father & Mother-in-law, Billy and Connie Bishop (Pulaski), sisters and Brother-in-law, Debbie and Chuck Gore (Pulaski), Becky and Billy Murphy (Radford); nieces and nephews, Rudy Zikes, Lauren and Jason Black, Ryan and Bre Zikes, Christina and Daniel O'Dell, Ashley and Chris Leggett, Andrew and Amy Gore, Amanda and Ted Lagos, Al Gore and Matthew Murphy; great-nieces and nephews, Madison & Lauren O'Dell, Ryan and Hannah Gore, Greysen Zikes; and many aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends.

A private celebration of Lee's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his home in Belspring.
