Mr. Leon Mason Jr., 48, he was called home on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013.

Leon was born on Jan. 19, 1965, in Hopewell, Va. He resided in Petersburg, Va., where he often visited area barbershops, the library and local funeral homes. Leon attended Tabernacle Baptist Church and Harrison Grove Baptist Church, where he loved to serve in both.

Leon is survived by his parents, Leon Mason Sr and Ethel Thompson (Warner). He is also survived by two sisters, Tamara Shamlee (Daryl) and Kenyetta Mason; one brother, Darryl Mason. Leon was a proud uncle, his nieces and nephews include Myah Shamlee, Daryl Shamlee Jr., Cortni Bell, Cheterie Cunningham, Damian Cunningham, Marquis Cunningham, Montino Williams, Nehamiah Brown and Zaire Brown. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Laura Mason (Benjamin); several aunts and uncles, Bobby Mason (Sheila), Jean Mason, Benjamin Mason III, Valerie McDougal (Jerome), Carol Gilyard (Roy), Evelyn Norman (Bennie) and Kevin Perry. Leon has many special aunts, uncles and numerous cousins and friends.

Leon loved to tell jokes and make other people laugh. He was a true Philadelphia Eagles football fan. He and his father loved going to sporting events, especially the annual high school basketball tournament in Richmond. They frequently attended high school football and basketball games, and would think nothing about going out-of-town to support their favorite teams.

A funeral service for Mr. Leon Mason Jr. will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr., pastor, eulogist, and the Rev. Calvin Lewis officiating. The interment to follow at the Robinson Family Cemetery, Heritage Road, Prince George, Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the funeral establishment.
