Lewis Hendrick Obituary

Mr. Lewis A. Hendrick Sr., 79, of 4810 Garfield St., Hopewell, answered God's call on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 and went home to be with the Lord.

He was a native of Mecklenburg County, the son of the late George and Rosa Hargrove Hendrick Sr. and the widower of Louetta T. Hendrick, his wife of forty-two years. Mr. Hendrick accepted Christ at an early age at the Roanoke Zion RZUA Church and was a member until he moved his membership to Union Baptist Church, Hopewell, where he served as vice president on the Usher Board and was a member of the Trustee Board. He received his early education in the Mecklenburg County Schools. Mr. Hendrick moved to Petersburg around 1948 and later moved to Prince George County in 1955 where he lived until his death. He was employed at Hercules in Hopewell receiving many awards and recognitions for his service and retired after 38 years of service. He was also a faithful employee of Turner-Bland Funeral Home for over 20 years. Lewis befriended everyone he met, many of them turning into lasting friendships.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie, Algie, George, Haywood, Joseph and Willie; and four sisters, Ida, Edmonia, Naomia and Dorothy.

Mr. Hendrick was a member of Shiloh Lodge #33 Prince Hall Masons for over 50 years, also where he received the degree of Past Master in 2007-2008; a member of Sunlight Elks Lodge #1558; and the Lilley of the Valley #44 Order of Eastern Star. He attended numerous conventions across the United States and the Caribbean. Lewis was always willing to help wherever and whenever he could.
