Lloyd Davis Obituary

Lloyd Edward Davis, 77, of 3100 Pinetree Drive, Apt. C3, Petersburg, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Ford, and the son of the late Richard James Smith and Mamie Alfriend Davis, and the widower of Francis Davis. Mr. Davis was a graduate of the class of 1950, Dinwiddie Training School, and a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with 15 years of service. He was also an employee of We Care Transportation Service until his health declined.

He leaves to cherish memories of him two sisters, Hattie Pritchett (Herbert) of Sutherland and Carrie Bland of Petersburg; a brother, Deacon George Davis (Nancy) of Blackstone; two sisters-in-law, Willianna Davis of Ford and Elema Davis of Poole Siding; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, among them a devoted niece, Mamie Mason, and great-niece, Jasmine Thomas of Petersburg, two devoted friends, James and Mary Hayes of Dinwiddie.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at the Mount Poole Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Stephen W. Pugh, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family can be contacted at 733-8194 (Carrie) or 732-1219 (Mamie). The body may be viewed on Monday at the church one hour prior to the service and Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, from noon until 8 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel-Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, 863-4411.

We come not to mourn the death of our beloved uncle, brother, great-uncle, and friend, but we gather together to celebrate the life of our elder.
