Louis Baines Obituary

Louis G. Baines, 63, of 4196 Clearview Drive, Douglasville, Ga., departed this life Oct. 6, 2010, at the Well Star Douglas Hospital.

He was born June 13, 1947, in Dinwiddie County, Va. Louis accepted Christ at an early age, and joined the Mount Level Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, Va. He received his early education in the Dinwiddie County Public School System and was a graduate of the Southside High School of 1966. Louis joined the United States Air Force, and after 20 years of dedicated service, he retired as a staff sergeant.

Upon returning to Petersburg after retirement, he fellowshipped with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church family in Prince George Va., and later became a member. He worked faithfully in several church ministries. Louis became gainfully employed with the Air Force Exchange Service as an aircraft mechanic and retired from this career at Fort Lee, Va. He is a member of the American Legion Post #120.

Later, relocating to Douglasville, Ga., with his wife Ethel, he united with the Second Baptist Church where he was the chairman of the Ushers' Ministry and served on the Hospitality Ministry. Louis was never a dull person, always on "stage."

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Ethel Baines of the home; one stepson, David Hetherington (Gina); three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Barbara Graves of Carson, Va., and Rose DeWitt of Petersburg; one aunt, Molly Baines; several brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at the Petersburg Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. D. Tyrone Brandon Sr. eulogizing and the Rev. David L. Banks Sr. officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will assemble at the chapel at 12:45 p.m. on the day of the service. The family may be reached by calling Barbara Graves of Carson, (804) 469-4851, and Rosa DeWitt of Petersburg, (804) 732-5667.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, Va., (804) 863-4411.

Aunt Ethel,
The strings that tie a family together may have been slighty broken...but to know we have an angel soaring above us to help guide and protect us is so comforting! May you know that we are here for you in anyway...I will miss most of Uncle Louis is ability to tell such great stories. Love you so much!

My dearest Uncle, I want to be sad in a time such as this. However your love for life and kindered spirit leave no room for such emotion. You leave me with only the fondest of memories. God has granted you your wings. Until we meet again....

Your Neice,
Jewel
