On Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, our beloved mother, Mrs. Mahala G. Carter, of 704 Elko Ave., Colonial Heights, Va., entered into eternal rest.

She was the eldest of eight children, born on Oct. 30, 1927, to the late Gus and Laura Goode.
She was married to the late Charlie Carter, and to that union six children were born; three preceded her death, Sterling Goode, Charlie Carter Jr. and Shirley M. Baskerville. Mahala's granddaughter, Celeste Carter, also preceded her in death.
Left here to cherish her memories are her children, Walter Carter (Alma), of the home, George Carter (Cora Ann) of Emporia, Va., and Condrew Alexander of Lakewood, N.J.; 16 grandchildren, one devoted who also served as her devoted caregiver, Edith Jones (Willie "Nut" Jones); 20 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren, three devoted, Jalisah Moore, Adejeh Branch and Reign Winfield; one great-great-great-grandson, Jaelyn Ford; three sisters, Beatrice Baskerville and Vergie Brooks, both of South Hill, Va., and Ada Belle Boswell of Maryland; a devoted daughter-in-law, Julia Mae Carter of South Hill, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who she loved dearly.
Mahala gave her life to the Lord early on and later joined the Spoken Word of God Ministry under the pastoralship of Pastor William Wright, where she faithfully served until her health began to decline. She was loved by all who knew her.
In Mahala's last days, she found peace and did not suffer wanting to see her God.
A funeral service for Mrs. Mahala G. Carter will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Herbert Holly II, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Stony Creek, Va., eulogist. The interment will to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble 1:30 p.m. at the funeral establishment.
