Mary Walton Obituary

Early in the morning of Sept. 8, 2010, Mary A. Walton inherited the eternal reward for her faithfulness in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Born on July 24, 1941, in Selma, Va., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Herbert and Kathleen Sublett. In 1957 she married her first and only love, David Walton and they enjoyed a 53-year union. She was employed as an inventory control clerk for Hercules Inc., retiring after 20 years of service. She was a great woman of faith who possessed many gifts of the Holy Spirit. At the South Hopewell Church of God, she served the Lord as the Children's Ministry coordinator, pianist for the Precious Gems nursing home ministry and in many other capacities.

In addition to her husband, also left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Yuvonne and the Rev. Andy Paul of Prince George, Va.; her son and his wife, the Rev. Dr. David Walton and Teresa Walton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her grandchildren, Air Force Capt. Daphne Brewton and her husband, Jerry, Mr. John Andrew Paul Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Mrs. Abigail Harper and her husband, Peter, Mr. Seth Walton, Navy Seaman Ethan Walton,; and the Masters Joseph and Anthony Paul; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Jodie Paul. She is also survived by her siblings, Mrs. Loretta Boggs and her husband, Donald, Mr. Raymond Sublett and his wife, Janet, and Ms. Wynona (Nonie) Sublett Findley and her husband, Kevin; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and family members, friends and loved ones survive her.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at the South Hopewell Church of God, 2300 Bluefield St., Hopewell, Va., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, in the church with the Rev. Thurman Collier officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to make a contribution in her memory, donations may be made to support the Children's Ministry at the South Hopewell Church of God, 2300 Bluefield St., Hopewell, VA 23860. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com.

To David & Family,
I just heard about the death of Mary and I am so sorry for your loss. We worked togather in the Maintenance Department at Hercules for many years.
One thing I will always remember about her was she loved her husband, children, and church for that was her whole conversation when not talking about the job. May the sweet memories of her life bring you comfort, and I will keep you all in my prayers.

David, Yuvonne and David,
Thinking of Mary brings back great memories of the River. David, you and Mary did such a great job of coordinating our cookouts. We can still see Mary planting her flowers in the boxes on the edge of the deck. Great memories.
God Bless you all,
Wakefield and Penny

Our blessed Ma Walton as we always called you. You dear friend will be greatly missed. Your smile and constant laughter blessed all of us at Rainbow Parable Bookstore. You kept us looking for new product all the time as nothing was too good for your children at South Hopewell Church of God. There will be many coming after you whose lives you made better. We knew you would beat this and I guess you did. You are free from it and pain and you beat us all to Jesus' feet. We miss you already and will keep your family in our prayers. We love you John boy's mom! Peggy Perkinson
