On Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving and devoted family, Mrs. Mary A. Lee Brown slipped peacefully into eternal rest. Mary was born Jan. 31, 1934, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brown; a son, Nathaniel Brown; mother, Colline Lee Giles; and four brothers, Berkley Lee, Grover Lee, William H. Lee Woolridge and Johnnie Giles Sr.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age and joined the A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church, now known as Community Independent Methodist Church. For many years she served on the usher board, and faithfully attended and supported her church until her health began to decline.

Mary retired from Lucy Corr Nursing Home with 25 years of service as a certified nursing assistant. She loved to cook and prepare special dishes and desserts for her sons, and other family members and friends. Many meals were enjoyed around her table, especially Thanksgiving dinners. Mary also enjoyed visiting and dining with her lifelong friend, Mrs. Otelia Evans, after church services on Sunday afternoons.

Mary is survived by her three sons, retired Chief Master Sgt. Robert Brown (Sandra) of Fort Washington, Md., Vernon Brown (Dee) and Rudolph Brown (Mildred), both of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren, Tomika Johnson, Tammy Barnes, Chanell Hatch, Tarnisha, Vernon Jr., Marcus and Trevor Brown; four great-grandchildren; three siblings, Virginia Turner (Elbert), James Giles (Geneva) and Gracie Johnson, all of Chesterfield, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends, among them Mrs. Ethel Malone, Mrs. Magnolia Turner, Mrs. Helen Brown, Mrs. Louise Alree and Ms. Alease Johnson.

Special thanks to the I.C.U. staff of Johnston Willis Medical Center, who complimented her on her sweet and gentle spirit, and Shawn Lee of LinCare. A special thanks to her caregiver, Naomi Mitchell (Nat), who provided her with such excellent care.

Services for Mrs. Mary Ann Brown will be held noon Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Community Independent Methodist Church, 12033 River Road, Chesterfield, Va.; the Rev. Pate Pearson, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at church cemetery.
