Mary Burruss Obituary

Mary Brown Burruss, 79, of Petersburg, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010. A lifelong resident of the city, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Marvin and Edith Tyus Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Ray Burruss; and a brother, Richard A. Brown.

Mrs. Burruss is survived by her husband, Lucky D. Burruss Sr.; her sons, Grover "Pete" Stell and wife, Vivian, of Prince George, Lucky D. Burruss Jr. and wife, Wendi, of Holiday, Fla., and Jeffrey D. Burruss and Ginger Ferguson of Blackstone; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Carroll "Junior" Brown; sister, Viola "Mutt" Sturkey and husband, William; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service, with Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hosptial, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
