Mrs. Mary "Polly" Banks of 18513 Depot Road. McKenney, Va., departed this life Friday, July 13, 2012, at Retreat Hospital-Richmond. She was born on May 30, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Alice Johnson. She was preceded in death by seven sisters and four brothers.

She was baptized at an early age at Mt. Level Baptist Church, Amelia, Va., where she served on the Usher's and Hospitality ministries until her declining health. She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted husband, Jasper Lee Banks; three sons, Franklin Johnson (Laretha) of Columbus, Ga., David Johnson (Merrilenne) of Chesterfield and John Jasper Banks (Carolyn) of Dinwiddie; four daughters, Joyce Woodson (Andre'), Louise Winfield (Isham), Gloria Woolridge, and Mary Bell (Kevin Sr); 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Grover Johnson (Annie Mae) of Ford, Va.; two sisters, Alice and Cora Johnson of Petersburg, Va.; brothers-in-law, William (Dorothy) and Julius Banks (Delana) of Petersburg, and Willie Banks of Baltimore, Md.; six sisters-in-law, Helen Cameron and Mary Johnson of Ford, Corrine Taylor of Blackstone, Va., Bertha Reese and Eleanor Ledbetter (Carlton) of Petersburg, Shirley Coleman (Herman) of Church Road, Va.; a former daughter-in-law, Gail Johnson; and a host of devoted and cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Mount Level Baptist Church, Amelia, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Shannon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetary. The family will receive relatives and friends at the residence and may be contacted at 804-478-4291. The body may be viewed on Wednesday, July 18, at the funeral home in McKenney.
