Mary Jones Obituary

Mrs. Mary "Maybell" Jones departed this life on Oct. 14, 2010, at her residence, 7310 Taw St., Richmond, Va.

She was born Jan. 19, 1936, to the late Benjamin Jackson and Adie Watson-Jackson. She was a member of the AME Zion Church, Chester, Va., in her early years until her declining health. She was also a retired nurse's aide. Maybelle Jones was predeceased by her husband, Harold Jones; a brother, James Brown; a sister, Mary Elizabeth; and a devoted and loving companion, Landis Dance.

She leaves to cherish her memories, four loving and devoted children, Julie Harris (Algie), Kim Dance (Betty), Steven Bonner (Lisa), and Gloria Butler; three grandchildren: Algie Harris III, Latifah Hicks and Tasha Walton (Michael). She also leaves a loving and devoted sister-in-law, Rebecca Lewis; devoted and loving friends, Marian Dudley and Florence Hancock. Her extended family includes four great–grandchildren, many nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at the Zion AME Church, Chester, with the pastor, the Rev. Thomas Tucker, officiating. Viewing will be held today at the funeral home until 8 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the J.M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, (804) 863-4411.
