Mary Barnes Obituary

Mary Grant Barnes, 85, of Dinwiddie County, passed away peacefully at her residence Thursday, Nov 26, 2009.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, David Hinton Barnes; other survivors include one son, Curtis Grant Barnes and wife, Sherry; one daughter, Ann Marie Taylor and husband, Steve; three special grandchildren, Melanie Barnes Sheldon and husband, Matthew, Grant Barnes and Ellie Taylor; also a devoted niece, Suzanne Ivey; and a brother, Linwood Grant and wife, Louise. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Grant Ivey, and a brother, David Franklin Grant.

Mary Louise was an early telegraph employee of the Virginian Railroad retiring in 1955. She later was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years before retiring in 1987.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Owen Funeral Home with interment ot follow at Grace Anglican Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Concord United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Sam Clay, 25110 Courthouse Road, Stony Creek, VA 23882.
