Mary L. Walker

Mrs. Mary Lee Walker, "Shag," of 500 Farmer St., Apt 403, Petersburg, Va., departed this life Tuesday morning, Dec. 1, 2009, at the Southside Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Stony Creek to the late Richard Jones and the late Martha Walker. At an early age, she became a member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church, McKenney. Upon moving to the Petersburg area, she united with the First Baptist Church, Harrison Street, Petersburg, where she was an active member of the Cathedral Choir, Food Ministry and Ushers Ministry. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her dearly.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter, Sandra Walker (James McKiever) of Petersburg; one son, Ronnie D. Walker (Angie) of Temple, Texas; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Morris Jones (Doris) and Melvin Jones (Lola), all of Dinwiddie; one foster sister, Edith Ann King of Ford; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, to include Mable Nixon, Peggy Lee, Mildred and Matilda Goodwyn, the entire Gilhaven family and the First Baptist, Harrison Street, family.

A home going celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, Harrison Street, with the pastor,the Rev. Jerimiah Tillman, officiating. Burial will commence at the Jones Family Cemetery, Dinwiddie. Public viewing will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Petersburg Chapel.
