Maynard Thompson Obituary

On Oct. 18, 2010, Maynard Irving Thompson passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 9, 1949, to the late Kenneth and Hazel Thompson. An avid outdoorsman and lover of nature, he enjoyed the country life and was a life-long resident of Dewitt, Va.

He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Judy Butler Thompson of Dewitt, Va.; three devoted children, Stephanie Harris and husband, Walter Harris, of Dinwiddie, Va., Maynard Irving Thompson Jr. of Macon, Ga., and Christopher Irving Thompson and wife, Rae Thompson, of Petersburg, Va.; brothers, Robert Thompson and wife, Connie Thompson, of Archer, Fla., and Ronald Thompson and wife, Shannon Thompson, of Dewitt, Va.; a dedicated mother-in-law, Dorothy Butler of Dewitt, Va. Maynard was the proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and was soon to be a great-grandfather. He was truly a loving family man.

A memorial service will be held at the Petersburg chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son on Oct. 22, 2010, at four o'clock in the afternoon. All family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Wayne & I have known Maynard since school days - he and Wayne were realy good buddies in high school. I also enjoyed talking with him here at SVTC when we came in contact.
