Muhsin Muwwakkil Obituary

Muhsin Shukree Muwwakkil, aka Ernest Jackson aka "Bay," departed this life Dec. 16, 2009.

He was born Dec. 21, 1939, in Prince George County, Va. Muhsin graduated from Peabody High School and also served in the United States Navy in the early '60s. After he left active duty, he began working at the Portsmouth Naval Base; he then transferred to the Newport News Shipyard. Muhsin later moved to New York in the early '70s. During this time he also became a devoted Muslim in the Nation of Islam. While in New York he married his firs wife, Jamella Muwwakkil. He later married his second wife Faheemah Muhammad-Muwwakkil.

He is preceded in death by mother, Blanch L. Raines, and father, William H. Jackson, brothers Richard, Bernard and William Jackson Jr.

He leaves behind two sisters, Wilma Whitaker and Mildred Wheeler; eight children, Jameal and Racheena Muhammad, Lashawn Reid Carlos (Harold Jr.), Hamidullah Samir Muhammad, Muhsin Shukree, Nisaa and Sayida Muwwakkil, all residing in Petersburg, and Veronica Carter (Jerry) from Florida; 19 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind devoted friends Yolanda Mill, Abdul Halim, Brother Jerry, Minister Tracey and the Muslim community.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of William N. Bland And Son Funeral Home.

The family may be contacted by calling 804-840-5090. Cards and condolences can be sent to 1766 S. Crater Rd. Petersburg, VA 23803. All Flowers should be sent to Bland's Funeral Home, Petersburg.
