Oliver W. Powell, 70, of 17101 Parkdale Road, Petersburg, made the transition to his new home on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Born April 16, 1943, he was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bennett and Jessye Powell. He was also predeceased by six siblings: Thomas, Florence, Geraldyne, Jessye, John, Wylie, and Henryetta; and grandson, Levon Powell.

He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, Stony Creek, where he served as an usher until his health failed. A Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy, Oliver was a retiree of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, and Hill Phoenix, and former employee of Prince George County schools.
To cherish his memory, Oliver leaves: his devoted wife of 25 years, Frances U. Powell of Petersburg; three sons, Mortimer (Jennifer) of Woodbridge, Reginald(Toni) of Grovetown, Ga., and Brandon of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Justin of Petersburg, Reece, and Jovon of Grovetown, Ga.; two brothers, William of Temple Hills, Md., and Orris (Blanche) of Detroit; sister, Vivienne Monroe of Washington; one sister-in-law, Delilar Powell of California; two brothers-in-law, Washington Urquhart of Petersburg, and Keith Urquhart of Stony Creek; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends; devoted among them, the McKeever family and godchildren, Alvin McKeever Jr., Mack Wyche Jr., LaTonya Graise, and Staff Sgt. Antonio Jones.
The home going celebration will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Galilee Baptist Church, the Rev. Dr. Linwood James, officiating. Interment is at the Dillard Family Cemetery.
