Paul Saunders Obituary

On Friday night, Dec. 25, 2009, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Paul Collins Saunders, at the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, Va.

Paul was born March 19, 1943, in Petersburg, Va., to Paul easter and Mary Bell Saunders. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Easter; mother, mary Bell Saunders; foster parents, Jimmy and Jeannette Brown; mothers-in-law, Floresa Reese and Delores Shaw.

Paul was baptized at an early age at Loving Union Baptist Church in Disputanta, Va. He then continued worship through Christian experience at First Baptist, Disputanta.

Paul attended Prince George Public Schools. he was also a member of the Fort Lee Softball League for many years.

Paul served in the U.S. Army in both active and reserve status from 1966 until retiring in 2003. During his reserve status he worked with Allied Chemical in Hopewell, Va., then moved on to work at Fort Lee until 2003, where he retired from civil service. he continued working with The Progress-Index and James Taylor Transportation Services for several years.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friends to all who crossed his path. But most of all he was a devoted Christian.

Paul leaves to cheris his memory a loving wife, Ann Saunders of Disputanta, Va.; daughter, Tevis Dawnrea Saunders and adoptive daughter, Tortillia Fields of Richmond, Va.; father-in-law, Isaac Shaw of Baltimore; four sisters, Constance E. saunders of Petersburg, Va., Alice Noel of Disputanta, Gloria Ethridge (Steve) and Queen E. saunders of Petersburg; three brothers, John Saunders of Washington, D.C., Garland Saunders (Pazetta) of Petersburg and Richard Saunders of Richmond; four sisters-in-law, Donna R. Williams (Larry) of Disputanta, Mattie Morgan (Cecil) of Waverly, Linda Terrell (Ronald) of Mitchellville, Md., Tevis Ector (Roy) of Durham, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Herman C. Reese Jr. (Valanda) of Petersburg, Va.; a devoted nephew, Alonzo Reese of Petersburg, Va.; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the First Baptist Church, Disputanta; Dr. J. Alfred Reid, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains will rest at the church at 12:45 p.m. Relatives and friends will kindly assemble at the above residence at 1 p.m.

Remains rest at the Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.
