Mr. Peter Joseph Ambrister, affectionately known a "Pete," was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011.

Peter resided in Colonial Heights, Va. He was the son of the late Louise Dodson Ambrister and James Ambrister. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Allen Prince Ambrister, James "Jimmy" Ambrister, and sister, Vera Ambrister Johnson. He was educated in Brooklyn New York City Schools. He was a member of Coney Island Gospel Assemble until his relocation to Virginia where he met and married, Mary Terry.
Peter was very active in the community. He was a devoted husband, a good provider for his family, very generous, outgoing and sacrificed for many.
He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Mary Terry-Ambrister; three daughters, Rosa Ambrister, Cassandra Gill and Destiny Joseph; four sons, Peter Joseph Jr., Justin Joseph, Bennie Crawley and Brian Ambrister; 15 step-children; five grandchildren; two brothers, William Ambrister of Durham, N.C., and Donald Ambrister of Coney Island, N.Y. (Valerie); four sisters, Thelma Ambrister, Doris Wearing, Gloria Jones (Gary) of Durham, N.C., Yevette Ambrister of Staten Island, N.Y.; special friends, Craig Buck and Terry Lee of Boulevard Taxi Service; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Lawrence Taylor, eulogist. The interment to follow in the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
