REGINALD WENDELL JOHNSON Obituary
Reginald Wendell Johnson was born August 26, 1966, in Petersburg, VA. He was the son of Maude King Johnson and the late Hiawatha Johnson. On August 8, 2018, he peacefully departed his life to join his heavenly Father.

Reginald received his high school diploma from Sussex Central High School in Sussex, VA, where he was a member of the marching band and manager of the school's men's basketball team. Once Reginald graduated from high school he attended North Carolina Central University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He was a member of the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association in Roxboro, NC.

Reginald was a Senior Manufacturing Technician at Sumitomo Electric Light-wave in Research Triangle Park for twenty-five years. He most recently worked as an Assembly Technician at Parata Systems in Research Triangle Park, a cutting edge pharmaceutical company.

Reginald loved his family and friends dearly. His most recent pride and joy is his grandson, Erik Allen Johnson, who brightened up his day. Reginald enjoyed serving his community by coaching basketball for several teams, volun-teering as an assistant to Men of Distinction (a program both of his sons actively participated in), and volunteering for: Red Cross Hurricane Relief, Heart of Carolina Food Relief, Thad Eure 5k, Durham Rescue Mission, among many others. He loved the Washington Redskins, mentoring young men, debating sports with his first born, critiquing music with his second born, and anything about NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY. He was such a proud NCCU Eagle, he held season tickets to the football and basketball games. He spread his love of his university by ensuring both of his children attended and got the true experience of "Dear Ole NCC." Reginald encouraged his beloved sons to get fully involved on campus as he would support them at every event, from cheering the band on from the stands to step shows to SGA President Inaugurations to Jazz Ensemble performances. Since Reginald stepped on the campus of NCCU he never missed a homecoming.

Reginald is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, who he fell in love with at North Carolina Central University, Mrs. Shirlrona Phillips Johnson of Durham, NC; "First Born" son, Dwayne Wendell Johnson (Erika) of Rougemont, NC; "Second Born" son, Kevin Tyrell Johnson of Rougemont, NC; his grandson, Erik Allen Johnson; his dedicated mother, Mrs. Maude Johnson of Waverly, NC; brother-in-law, Clarence Phillips, Jr.; godsister, Mrs. Renee Lanier Barnes; his aunts and uncles: Frank King (Lummie), James Leon King (Ruth), Calvin King, Sr. (Dorothy), and Leroy Byrd; and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Hiawatha Johnson, Sr.; older brother, Hiawatha Johnson, Jr; uncle, Tommie King; and aunt, Irene Byrd.

Homegoing service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018, at First Baptist Church, Waverly, VA, Rev. Dr. Bridgette Wilson, pastor. Interment will follow at Waverly Cemetery,
