Mr. Richard "Bro" McKenzie, a resident of Ettrick, Va., passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Walnut Hill, Petersburg, Va.

The son of the late Mamie Macon Hill McKenzie was born on Jan. 2, 1922, in Petersburg, Va. A graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1940, Mr. McKenzie was the husband of the late Beatrice Martin McKenzie and a member of Zion Baptist Church.

He was employed as a sales person at the Cavalier Men's Shop, Butterworth and the Oak Furniture Companies.

He is survived by his sister, Mary M. Dickerson of Petersburg, Va.; a devoted nephew, Simon Dickerson of Boston, Mass.; a niece, Joanna McDuffie of Marina, Calif.; cousins, John H. Hill III of Hopewell, Va., Michael Hill of Chester, Va., Judy H. French of Largo, Md., Linda and Marilyn Hill and their mother, Daisy Hill of Petersburg, Va; godchild, McKenzie Saul; and a host of other relatives and personal friends, Lula H. Lawson, Joan F. Walker, the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Griffin, Walter Moore, Tammy Coleman, Melanie Hamilton and Beatrice L. Horton of Flint, Mich.

A funeral service for Mr. Richard McKenzie will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne St., Petersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Archie German Sr., interim pastor, officiating and the Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White Sr., pastor emeritus, eulogist. The interment to follow at Blandford Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at the funeral establishment.

The family, honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the church the day of the services.
