Roger Melvin Moore Sr., 73, passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia.

He was born on May 2, 1940, to the late Darcy L. Webb and Gracie E. Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mae Winfield Moore, and his son, Roger Moore Jr.
He was a lifelong resident of Petersburg City, where he attended Petersburg public schools. He was a former employee of the Seward & Luggage Co., and later by the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co., from which he retired. He was a quiet, soft-spoken man, who enjoyed fishing and watching football and sporting events on TV.
He is survived by: his son, Jesse L. Moore (Linda); and two granddaughters (Chelsea and Alexis) of Chester; five brothers; Merton A. Williams of Chesterfield, Roy L. Williams of East Orange, N.J., James A. Williams of Petersburg, Richard H. Williams of Petersburg, and Freddie Williams (Barbara) of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters; Betty L. Williams of Petersburg, and Pearl L. Williams of Petersburg; as well as a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.
The cremation of his remains will be handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia, and the family will have a private memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.
