Rolaunda Miles Obituary
Rolaunda was a 1979 graduate of Hopewell High School in Hopewell, where she was head majorette and just recently was blessed to be able to attend her 30th high school reunion. She will be fondly remembered as an avid alumnus of Virginia State University (1983) and featured twirler and majorette of the Virginia State University Marching Band. On Oct. 31, 2009, she marched and twirled with the alumni band for Homecoming.
As a Silver Soror and Lifetime Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., she shared this special sisterhood with her own sisters, Natalie and Elizabeth. Rolaunda was a charter member and Past Basileus with Tau Psi Omega of Ettrick. Rolaunda was a past officer and charter member of the Appomattox Chapter of the American Business Women Association, (ABWA). She also was a former member of the Richmond and Washington, D.C chapters of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), and was truly a dedicated volunteer at the NBMBAA Annual Conference for 10 years. Professionally, Rolaunda enjoyed a thriving career at HCA Hospitals, were she held several positions in accounting field. Rolaunda Miles was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Petersburg Ward. The family of Rolaunda Gayle Miles appreciates your prayers and kind thoughts during this very difficult time.
She was the loving wife of 25 years to Hal Miles, and beloved mother to Hal II, Britney and Alysha, In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind her siblings, Alfred Harris Jr. (Jill), Natalie H. Delbridge, Elizabeth H. Fields (Floyd) and Reginald Harris (Glenetta); several brother-in-laws, Bernard Miles (Margaret), Willie Miles (Peggy), Victor Miles (Sylvia), Ira Miles, (Cindy) and Van Miles (Angela), as well as a host of other close family members, friends, sorority sisters and colleagues.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, where the Rev. Jeffrey Reaves is pastor and Elder Hal Miles will officiate. The Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from to 6 to 8 Thursday evening. The family will assemble for the funeral at the residence, 1978 N. Westchester Drive, Petersburg, at 10 a.m. on Friday.

How thankful I am that I was able to see Gayle at the HHS reunion and give her a hug. My other half even made a comment to her that while all of looked like we were approaching 50 she looked like she was 18 and just getting out of school! I met Gail when she was a student at Virginia State University. She was our student worker. We have remained friends for many years and I will never forget her. Gail was a very strong, christian woman. She loved her children and Hal and they were her topic of conversation. She was always happy and had a good word for all she met. Gail fought a good battle and now she is at peace. Gail missed her Mom and Dad very much and now she has reunited with them and I know that was a happy reunion. I was so blessed to have seen Gail after 30 years at our class reunion for HHS. I'll always remember doing the Cha- Cha slide with her and having a great time with the family. I know Gail was happy to march as an alumni majorette with the VSU Trojan Marching Band one more time, along with both of her daughters, Britney (VSU majorette) and Alicia (Petersburg High School majorette) in the same parade, and with you and Little Hal looking on. What a wonderful tribute and memory that will be.

I did not know Gail very long; I worked with her at HCA, but what an impression she made on me. The courage and strength she had was unbelievable. She will be missed by many! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family..

To Hal and the Harris Family,
I too offer my condolences to you and your family. Gail was not only my Soror, but, my Homegirl. Our families grew up together. She will always be remember for her loving spirit and that beautiful smile. Hal, you may not remember me from Chemistry Class at VSU, but, probably as Ms. Taylor's sister. Just wanted you all to know that I am praying for you and asking that God will strengthen you and the family, as your wife, mother, child, sister, loved one and our friend has moved on to her new life with the Father.
