Roosevelt Parham Obituary

Mr. Roosevelt Franklin Parham, 77, of 1302 Custer St., Petersburg, departed this life Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Hunter McGuire Veteran's Hospital, Richmond. Mr. Parham was born March 20, 1933, to the late William and Delia Pegram Parham of Prince George. He was a dedicated employee of Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co., formerly in Petersburg, and Central State Hospital, Petersburg. He was a devoted member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, where he served faithfully on the Usher Board, Men's Fellowship Ministry and was one of the project overseers for Metropolitan Baptist Church's new edifice until his health began to decline. He graduated with the class of 1951 Disputanta Training School, served in the United States Army, and was a member of the B&W Hunting Club, the Cockade Bowling League, the Benedict Civic Club and Club Char-Le-Manze. Mr. Parham was preceded in death by two brothers, John Henry and William McKinley; and one daughter, Sandra R. Lee.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Lucille J. Parham; two sons, William Parham (Muriel), Dinwiddie, and Delano Parham, Petersburg; three daughters, Deborah Singleton (Maurice) Colonial Heights, Donna Dillard (Roosevelt) Matoaca, and Ann Williams (Keith) Northern Virginia; one sister, Rebecca P. Manson; one aunt, Maybelle Coleman; his father-in-law, James A. Johnson; three sisters-in-law, Flossie M. Johnson-Ridley, Gloria W. Parham and Evelyn Parham; six grandchildren, Terri Newman Johnson, Dakarai McCullough, Roosevelt Dillard III, Devita D. McCullough, Ashley Holcomb and Deon Dillard; four great-grandchildren, Jaimen R. Newman, Jamar R. Johnson, Tamarian Greene and Timothy Greene; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends, very devoted friends are: Peter Bland, James Bland, Henry Lee Williams, Roosevelt Harvell, Bobby Harvell, William Wingfield and David Ware.

A funeral service will be held Thursday noon, Nov. 11, 2010, at Metropolitan Baptist Church. The Rev. William N. Bland Jr. will do the eulogy. Interment will be held in Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie. Family and friends are asked to assemble one hour prior to the service at the residence. Services have been provided by William N. As far back as I can remember, the Parham family home has been the cornerstone at Hawk and Custer - one of the loveliest homes in the neighborhood and some of the nicest people I have been blessed to know and grow up with.
Mrs Parham and all the Parham Family, you have my deepest sympathy at this sad time and that the many fond memories of Mr Parham will help heal the pain of your loss. He was a fine man and will be missed by this community.
