1919 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Deaconess Rosa Vaughan Stith, 98, of Petersburg, VA, peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, VA. She was born on November 2, 1919, to the late James and Mollie Vaughan.

She was educated in Petersburg; however, she went to work at an early age, as she was employed at Johnson's Cleaners and many other establishments in the city. Her love of fashion led her to become one of the best seamstresses in town, making many beautiful hats and outfits for herself, as well as many others. You could always find her impeccably dressed in one of her own creations at any time.

Rosa was a pillar of the community because of the many children she served icebergs and popcorn to in the summertime and after school. Many of the children looked up to her because she was well-respected and always had a smile on her face.

Always focused on the church and her community, Mrs. Stith joined the Evans-Glasper Tent #601, Petersburg district, (a charter member since 1949), where she sponsored countless programs, and organized many fundraisers. She was elected Queen of The Royal Degree Circle #8, Petersburg district; a capacity in which she served for over 20 years. On September 22, 2001, she was awarded the Certificate of Emeritus for honorable and committed service.

She accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church, Petersburg. In later years, she became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Petersburg, where she served on the Diaconate Ministry, and was President of the Pastor's Aide Society. She was tireless in her efforts to assist in raising monies for the church renovations and other functions. At the time of her passing, she had re-united with New First Baptist Church where she continued to serve as a deaconess there. She was a member of the Missionary Ministry, as well as President of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, and was also honored as the Mother of the Church. She was faithful, diligent, and dedicated in her service to her God until the decline of her health.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank E. Stith; sisters, Bertha Moyler, Elizabeth Williams, and Louise Samuels; brother, Willie Vaughan; niece, Doris Johnson; nephew, James Robinson; and Regina and Herman Grandison.

Left to cherish her memories are her nieces, Francine Ross of Richmond, and Robertha Hill (Charles) of Dinwiddie; nephews, Charles and Marvin Bridgeforth of Petersburg; great nieces, Demetria Ross of Fairburn, GA, Teaira Daniels (Rev. Dorian) of Wilmington, NC, Syreeta Hill, and Tamika Williams; great nephew, Hervie Williams all of Chester and Richmond; great-great nieces, Raquelle and, Kiara Ross, and Ty Williams; and several great-great-great nieces and nephews; adopted niece, Rev. June Twyman; adopted family, the Johnson family; devoted friends, Minister Pauline Trisvan and Florence Jones-Clarke; numerous relatives and other friends, to include Janet "Cookie" Brown, Steve Poires, Elizabeth Westbrook, Minister Louise Pegram, Ethel Edmonds, and several members of New First Baptist Church.

Many thanks to the staff of Riverside Pace/MacTavish, Lucy Corr Village/Midlothian, and Chippenham Medical Center for the wonderful treatment and care rendered during her stay, illness, and passing.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at New First Baptist Church, 1346 Grant Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Curtis Johnson, Pastor of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, VA, eulogist, and Rev. Robert Harney, officiating. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

Wake service will be held from 7:30 P.M. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the funeral establishment.

The family will assemble 12:30 p.m. at the church the day of the service.
