Rose Greene Obituary

Mrs. Rose B. Greene, "Mama Rose," of 516 Hoke Drive, Petersburg, went on to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Southside Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary E. Wyatt, and her father, Paul R. Moore Sr. Mama Rose was a native of Petersburg, Va. She retired early from Central State Hospital as a nurse's aid after several years of service. She was a faithful member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she served as an honorary member of the Pastor's Aid Ministry and as president of the Hawkins-Pitt Memorial Scholarship Committee. Because of her love for children, she was the director of the Mount Olivet Summer Day Camp for many years. After which she worked as an arts and crafts teacher for Harvest International Full Gospel Baptist Church where she was dearly loved. Some people may remember Mama Rose walking the halls of Petersburg High School where she volunteered with the School Watch Program for five years but most will remember her as the yard sale and bus trip queen.

Mama Rose opened her heart and her home to many children. Fulfilling a passion to help others, she was a sister, friend, confidant and mother to all who needed her. She leaves us to cherish her legacy, not just beautiful memories.

She leaves to cherish her legacy: her devoted husband and best friend of 37 years, Lewis B. Greene; one son, William Peet of Petersburg; three daughters, Shirley Rose (Fontasia), Latasha Greene and Kimberly Greene, all of Petersburg; one sister, Genieva Hall (Leroy) of Pittsburgh; four brothers, Paul R. Moore Jr. of Sacramento, Calif., Donald Moore (Venus) of Pittsburgh, Clyde Wyatt and Gerald Wyatt (La'Keisha) of Richmond; three sisters-in-law, Yolanda Munford and Lucinda Sweatt, both of Fayetteville, N.C., and one devoted, Patricia Green of Petersburg; two brothers-in-law, Charles Green of Madison, Ala., and devoted James Green of Petersburg; five grandchildren, James Rose, Shamarie Rose, Tavis Rose, Demario Peet and Rayven Blanks, all of Petersburg; devoted family and friends, Carolyn Taylor, Mary Peterson, Brenda Walton and Tosheika Goode, the church family at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, with the Rev. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, officiating. The interment will be in Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 Thursday evening at the Chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home. The family will assemble at the residence one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. Please visit our website at www.blandenterprisesinc.com.

Mama Rose was such an angel; I can't imagine what Allison's and my own childhood would have been without her. I fondly remember Christmas morning breakfasts and summer days spent at the Greene house with the many children she cared for. She touched so many lives and was truly a blessing! Your family is in my prayers. - Valencia Bonner Lewis (Mangilao, Guam)

MamaRose was such a beautiful woman from the inside out. She's just gone ahead and will be there to greet us when our time comes to be with the Lord. God blessed us with her presence and MamaRose showed us how to live our life right. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She did love angels.

I desire to offer my condolences to you, Mr. Greene and family over the untimely passing of your dearly beloved Rose. I would imagine things maybe difficult for you at the present time and your beloved Rose's death has to be heavy in your hearts. May our Heavenly Father comfort each of you and give you endurance.

How comforting are the words of God at Isaiah 57:15,"This is what the High and Lofty One, who is residing forever and whose name is holy, has said:'In the height and in the holy place is where I reside, also with the one crushed and lowly in spirit." The crushed one clings to the Father, my friends, there is a greater closeness than ever before. "The nearer you go to God, the nearer He will come to you," writes James.(James 4:8) James assures us that God is willing to give us the necessary wisdom and strength for recovery, dear family. Our Heavenly Father is there for you whenever you need Him, dear friends. Just call on Him,through His son, Jesus Christ and you will be heard.

You are in my prayers and thoughts.
