Rosemary Butterworth Obituary

Rosemary Westerman Butterworth, widow of Harold Alvin "Bully" Butterworth, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.

The daughter of Elmer C. and Katie Mae Westerman, she was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Clifton Forge, Va. Upon graduation from Clifton Forge High School in 1944, she attended Mary Washington College where she graduated in 1948. She then moved to Hopewell, Va., where she taught the seventh grade for many years in the Hopewell School System. She was a former member of the Hopewell Junior Woman's Club, a founding member of the patrons committee for the James River Ball, a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hopewell.

She is survived by two children, H. Curtis Butterworth (Donna) and Barbara B. Batts (Phil); six grandchildren, Christopher Curtis Lilley (Sara), Katie Lilley Odell (John), Michael Cameron Lilley, Brandon P. Butterworth (Jessica), Brooke Ashley Butterworth and Bennett Douglas Batts; one great-grandchild, Carter Reynoldson Butterworth; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Elmer C. Westerman Jr. (Mary Ellen), and her sister, Barbara W. Newlon (Howard).

Special thanks and gratitude go to her devoted caregivers, Ronnie and Terry Mitchell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Browder, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Church, 502 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860.
