Mr. Rudolph B. Drayton Jr. of Petersburg, departed this life on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1945, in Harlem, N.Y., to the late Rudolph B. Drayton Sr. and Dorothy Drayton.
Drayton graduated from Charles Evans Hughes High School in 1963. He worked at Creedmore State Hospital for 13 years then became a New York state corrections officer. After 25 years of service, he retired in June of 2002.
He enjoyed singing, fishing, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by: his sister, Francine Drayton; a brother, George Drayton.
Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 38 years, Mary A. Drayton; six children, Rudolph B. Drayton III, Crystal Thorne (Derick), Ramona Morris (Chris), Shevelle Drayton, Dorothy Drayton, and Tuneesha Drayton; 12 grandchildren, Dyamon Drayton, Derick A. Thorne, RayVaughn Drayton, Taneva Drayton, Nakeya Drayton, Samantha Drayton, Tyisha Slaughter, Malik Jones, Alexander Morris, Raymond Morris, Briana Morris, and Stefan Morris; two great-grandchildren, Cherrish Drayton and Serenity Drayton; two aunts, Jean Estwick and Florence Locklary; a sister-in-law, Sandra Givens; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends, amongst the cousins, one devoted Joseph Richards.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, pastor, the Rev. Calvin Lewis of Harrison Grove Baptist Church, Prince George, officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, Petersburg.
