On September 7, 2018, God in His infinite wisdom, saw fit to call one of his faithful servants' home. Ruth Threatt Barber was born October 7, 1925, to the late Hezikiah "Guy" Threatt and Lucille Threatt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Barber, Sr.; stepmother, Corean Jackson Threatt; two brothers, Lee Vernon Parham and Robert Threatt; and two step-sisters, Effie Goode and Lillie Brown.

Mrs. Barber was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, Operation Bread Basket and Rosaland Smith Senate. She was also honored as Zion's Sparkling Diamond.

Mrs. Barber loved bowling. She was a league bowler for well over 50 years, until her health started to decline.

In 1987, Mrs. Barber retired from Central State Hospital after 40 years of service. She was a former member of the Benedict Civic Club, Marionette Social Club and the Petersburg TRIAD. She also faithfully served at the voting polls every election.

Mrs. Barber is survived by her loving devoted son, Lewis Barber, Jr. of Petersburg; one granddaughter, Moniqué Barber Harris (Quinton) of Blackstone; two grandsons, André Barber (Jade) and Christopher Barber, both of Las Vegas, NV; two great grandchildren, Dejah Lowery and Kiara Lowery, both of Las Vegas, NV; two god-children, Adeshia B. Taylor of Petersburg, and Sheldon Gholson of Dinwiddie; devoted niece, Carolyn Threatt Thomas of Petersburg; devoted nephew, Stanley Barber of Petersburg; devoted friends, Gretchen Branch of Petersburg and Wyjohnia Reynolds of Leesburg, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne Street, Petersburg, VA, Pastor Michael E. Shannon, Sr., eulogist. The interment will be held Southlawn Memorial Park.

A wake service will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2018, at the funeral establishment.

The family will assemble 10:00 a.m. the day of the service and receive friends at 1109 E. Booker Circle, Petersburg, VA.
