1982 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
On Monday, August 6, 2018, Ryan Thomas Rivers affectionately known as "Chud" transitioned this earthly life, to eternal rest with the Master. He was born December 31, 1982, and was the son of George and Madelyne Rivers of Yale, Virginia.

Ryan gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir and played many instruments. He was also a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA, where he sang in the Men's Chorus and was a member of the security ministry. He received his primary and secondary education in the Sussex County Public Schools. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 2000! Ryan attended Virginia State University and he was an active member of the Marching Trojan Explosion as well as Drum-Phi. Ryan loved life on two wheels! He was a member of the Sons of Solomon Motorcycle Club of Petersburg, Virginia. He was an employee at Hunters Mcquire Veterans Hospital as a medical analyst and was a barber at Classics Barber Shop in Petersburg, VA. One of Ryan's most recent achievements was riding round trip from Virginia to Texas on his motorcycle. Among the other civic organizations, Ryan was a member of the Acme Lodge #158, Jarratt, Virginia. Ryan blessed all that he knew with the gift of songs. He performed at countless weddings, church events, as well as performed with Sista Girl Productions.

Ryan is preceded in death by his father, George Thomas Rivers. His paternal grandparents, James and Mittie Rivers; and maternal grandparents, James and Mollie Walton.

He is survived by his mother, Madelyne Walton Rivers of Yale; devoted girlfriend, Taneshia Page; a loving daughter, Rhyan Monea Rivers, both of Prince George; a loyal dog Bloka; two paternal uncles, John H. Rivers (Rose) and Jesse Rivers (Eva), both of Yale; five paternal aunts, Gladys Rivers Jones, Ethel Rivers (devoted aunt), and Ruth Rivers Hanks (Spencer), all of Yale; Lena Rivers Sowell of Hyattsville, Md., and Edith R. Obey (Nathaniel) of Chesapeake; three maternal uncles, Gale Walton of Yale, Dennis Walton (Patricia) of Chesterfield, and Darryl Walton (Kimberly) of Varina; seven maternal aunts, Dr. Mary Wilson (Glover) of Stony Creek, LaVerne Hines of Petersburg, Linda Walton of Chesterfield, Beverly Gurley of Yale, Altermease Mosby of Chesterfield, Janet Lassiter of Henrico, and Ingrid Walton of Chesterfield. Ryan has a host of cousins from the Rivers and Walton families. Additionally, Ryan leaves a host of devoted friends, co-workers, and family members to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, Virginia, with the Pastor, Rev Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., eulogizing , and Rev. Dr. Willie R. Derr, officiating. A Repast will directly follow the service at the Tabernacle Family Life Center. Interment with Masonic rites will follow at the Rivers Family Cemetery, Yale, VA.

Public viewing for Mr. Rivers will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2018, at the Petersburg Chapel- Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, VA. 23803 (804)863-4411. Family and friends may view/sign guestbook at www.johnsonservices.us.
