Reflections of Mr. Mayes' life are taken from a poem written for him by his very devoted nephew, the Rev. Sylvester Mayes. He was a good-hearted and hard-working many. His passion in life was hunting, fishing and planting humongous gardens. He shared his vegetables and fruits with everyone. To God be the glory for the wonderful and full life he allowed Mr. Mayes to live.

A celebration of his life will take place at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
