God in his infinite wisdom call our loved one, Sherman, from labor to reward. Mr. Sherman Clyde Ward Jr. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, Va.

Sherman was born on Oct. 4, 1954, to the late Sherman Clyde Ward Sr. and Easter Ward in St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Dynastie Washington; a brother, Robert McGrew Sr.; and a niece, Robin Ann McGrew.

Sherman graduated with the Class of 1973 from Vashon High School in St. Louis. He proudly served in the United States Army from April 1978 to September 1984. He retired from the United States Postal Service. Sherman's passion was music. He played the saxophone, flute and keyboard for various churches and organizations.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Diane Ward of Petersburg; daughters, Lawanda Harvey of Minneapolis and Krystle Hughes of Petersburg; sons, Christopher Hughes of Racine, Wis., Christopher Ward and Sherman Ward III of St. Louis; stepchildren, Darren Washington of Forrestville, Md., Kenneth Washington (Patrice) and Pamela Washington (William), both of Petersburg, and Roy Washington Jr. (April) of Tennille, Ga.; a brother-in-law, David Maclin Sr. (Evelyn) of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Latoya and Victoria Furlow, both of Richmond, Darnell Washington of Daytona Beach, Fla., Derrick, Kendall, Kamaria and Kenya Washington, and Tillman Coleman, all of Petersburg, Antiavia and Brianna Washington, both of Columbia, S.C.; nieces, Laura McGrew of St. Louis, Denise Knight (Jason) of Chesapeake and Melanie Maclin of Baltimore; nephews, Craig Kimbrough of St. Louis, Leonard Ward of Raleigh, N.C., and David Maclin Jr. of Delware; great-nieces, RaShonda McGrew of Hampton and India Wolfolk of St. Louis; great-nephews, Leonard Ward Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., James and Jermaine Wolfolk. and Tramien and Craig McGrew. all of St. Louis; and special friends, Bay-Bay, Lorenzo, George and the Borse family, all of St. Louis.

Services for Mr. Sherman Ward will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave, Petersburg, Va. Interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
