Sidney West Obituary
He was the son of Rosalie Butler and James Butler Sr. of Washington, D.C. He graduated from high school in Saluda, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca G. West; parents, Rosalie Butler and James Butler Sr.; brother, James Butler Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Carol West.
Sidney was a native of Washington, D.C., until moving to Petersburg, Va. He was a member of God's Mission of Faith Church in Ettrick, Va. He was a self-employed truck driver and auto mechanic, and was employed at Auto Zone. Sidney was a member of the Masons.
Sidney is survived by two sons, Leonard West Sr. of Franklin, Va., and James West of Alexandria, Va.; seven grandchildren, Lenora Watkins (Sam), Jennifer West, Jerome Curry, Brittnay Weddington (Darion), Leonard West Jr., Gerald West and Darryl West; eight great-grandchildren; and many foster children; aunts, Mary Dandridge of Washington, D..,C and Susie Prince of Cardora, Tenn., and Viola West of Suitland, Md.; a devoted sister-in-law and caregiver, Barbara Jones, whom he resided with; a host of nieces and nephews, among them devoted, Amy Robinson, Anneika Brown, Darcy Colbert, Dominque Colbert, Dawn Thorpe (Michael), Mark Colbert and Bobby Colbert; many great-nieces and great-nephews, among them devoted, Omega Berry, Marquise Colbert, Michael Thorpe Jr. Markel Thorpe, Angelo Crispen Jr. Marcellous Brown and Yazmen Brown; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends, among them a special friend, Shirley Good of Petersburg, Va.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc.,102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Virginia Graham officiating.
The family will assemble 10:30 a.m. at the funeral establishment the day of the services and may be contacted at (804) 504-5079.
