Stacey Shurm Obituary

Stacey Leah Shurm, 52, of Hopewell, Va., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Atlanta, and had been a long-time resident of Hopewell. Stacey enjoyed many activities to include cooking, reading, lounging at the beach, and spending time with her family and friends. She was employed by the U.S. government at Fort Lee, VA. Mrs. Shurm was the daughter of the late Alfred and Catherine T. Gravatt Smith.

She is survived by her husband, William E. Shurm Jr.; a son, Stephen Edward Shurm; a daughter, Sarah Katherine Shurm; her father-in-law, William E. Shurm Sr.; two brothers, Ronnie Smith and his wife, Tiny, Tim Smith; a sister, Cil Buelk and her husband, Dan; a very devoted family member, Vicki Connelly; and a special friend, Patti King; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in Appomattox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com.

Ronnie, Tim & Cil
It has been many, many years since I have seen you but it sadden me so to read of Stacey's passing. Just wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers as well as her husband and children. It is hard losing someone so young. Take care and hold on to the memories.
