Mr. Taylor Leroy Jones, 71, a native of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Hopewell, departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at his home.

He was a member of First Baptist City Point, joining the Trustee Board and many choirs of the church.

He was a member and past worship master of the Shiloh Lodge Masonic Temple #33. Taylor was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army and member of the VFW Post 10287, where he served as chaplain and life-time member.

He was known for his free spirit and loving smile that he shared with all who knew him. He will forever be remembered for his comforting and loving demeanor, love for family, friends and his shining light will forever shine through them.

Left to cherish his loving memory: four daughters, Betty Diane Redd (Thomas), Martha Peterson (Maurice), Carala Jones and Joanie Jones (Jimmaal); 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Douglas James (Ella), Ronnie Spurlock (Beatrice), Carolyn Fritz (Eugene), William Irby (Jennifer), Harold Irby and Harriett Prince (Larry); brothers-in-law, Larry Manley of Hopewell, Richard Collins of Louisburg, N.C., Handy "Pete" Richardson (Connie) of Richmond; sister-in-law, Laura Jean Williams of Richmond; and his loving companion, Ella Frazier and her son, Andrew Frazier.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie B. Jones; parents, Jake and Martha Irby, Jake James, Sr.; brothers, Charles D. Jones Sr, Jake James Jr. and Johnny James.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at First Baptist Church City Point, 1117 Pierce St., Hopewell. The Rev. Rudolph Dunbar, pastor, will officiate. Interment to follow at church cemetery.

The family will be assembling 10:15 a.m. at 1006 Pierce St., Hopewell, on the day of service. Family may contact, Martha Peterson, 804-919-0751. Repast will follow at VFW, Hopewell.
