Mrs. Thelma Alston, daughter of the late Ida White Mosley and Oscar Mosley, was born on April 23, 1924, in Petersburg, Va. Thelma made her transition from this life on July 18, 2010, in Atlanta.

Thelma was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ernest Royster Alston; son, Conrad Nunnally; sister, Mary Rose Early; and brother, Richard Mosley.
Mama Thelma, as she was affectionately called by her family, lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for more than 30 years. While a homemaker and raising her own children, Thelma also opened her home to several foster children through her work with the Salvation Army Foster Care Services of Greater New York. She received many accolades for her service. As an expert seamstress, Thelma enjoyed making her own clothes as well as clothes for family and friends. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and became a skilled pattern maker, earning college credits through courses she took at NYC's Fashion Institute of Technology.
Returning to her hometown of Petersburg, Thelma continued to care for the many family members that came to stay during summer and holiday vacations over the years.
Mama Thelma leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Gail Oliveira of Atlanta; son, Michael Harris Alston; granddaughters, Renee Ruffin of Atlanta, Alice Nunnally of Long Island, N.Y., Lisa Oliveira of Atlanta; grandson, Conrad Nunnally Jr. of Long Island, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Dennis Jr. and Cherise; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.;, the Rev. Herbert Holly II, pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Chesterfield, Va., officiating. The interment to follow at the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg, Va.
