On Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, Mr. Timothy E. Lewis peacefully entered into eternal rest at his residence in Chesterfield. Tim was born on Oct. 30, 1943, to the late Rev. McCoy and Lucille L. Lewis. He was preceded in death by: his son, Matthew J. Lewis; two brothers, Linwood and John Lewis Sr.; and sister-in-law, Kimberly Bassett.

Tim accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Lee's Chapel A.M.E. Zion, now known as Community Independent Methodist Church, where he was a steward and chair of the program ministry. Tim worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company for 25 years and retired from Honeywell after 20 years of service.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Joyce Bassett Lewis; daughter, Shelly Lewis Gatling (Donald); sister, Martha Woodley Adams; daughter-in-law, Katreena Wilkinson Lewis; two granddaughters, Nichelle and Danae Lewis.

He was like a father to Renia Brown Cobb, Dwight Brown Sr., Marion "Missy" Crew and many, many others.

He also leaves to cherish his memory: three godchildren, Artrice Gilliam Harris, Steven Brown and Michelle Lewis; one uncle, Albert Lee; eight sisters-in-law, Mattie Lewis, Arletha Gilliam, Louise Bassett, Juanita Harvey (Mack), Cathy Branch (David), Goldie Miller, Betty Shelton (Gary) and Sandra Walton (Melvin); one brother-in-law, Robert Bassett Jr. (Dimple); and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Timothy E. Lewis will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Community Independent Methodist Church, 12033 River Road, Chesterfield, the Rev. Pate Pearson, pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at the funeral establishment.
