Mother Veola R. Thomas-Taylor, 84, departed this life on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. She was born on Oct. 28, 1928, to the proud parents of the late Willie and Effine Thomas. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by: two sisters, Melvin Thomas, and Janice Lockett; a brother-in-law, Pastor Robert Wilkins Sr.; and son-in-law, Tony Scott.

She was employed by Johnson's Cleaners in Colonial Heights, where she worked for over 30 years. She also served faithfully as a member of Saint Paul Holiness Church, Waverly, for over 40 years and later joined Signs and Wonders Church of Deliverance of Petersburg.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a husband of 67 years, Deacon Edward Taylor Sr. of Waverly; five daughters: Beatrice Dawson of Richmond, Hester Jones (Joseph) of Waverly, Elder Ruth Mason (James) of Chesterfield, Elder Gloria Harris (Elijah) of Henrico, Effie Scott of Petersburg; and four sons: Edward Taylor Jr. of Hopewell, Joe Nathan Taylor (Viola) of Minneosta, Paul A. Taylor (Patricia), Newport News, Pastor David O. Taylor (Laura) of Chester; 48 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two devoted brothers, Minister Willie Thomas (Alvinia), and Pastor Timothy Thomas (Patricia), of Waverly; two devoted sisters, Geraldine Wilkins, and Betty Thomas, both of Waverly.
She leaves a devoted extended family consisting of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
The funeral services for Mrs. Taylor will be held on Monday, May 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Rose of Sharon Church, Waverly, Va., Bishop Tyrone Harper, pastor, officiating and Pastor David Taylor eulogizing. These funeral services have been entrusted to the Peace-Bland Funeral Service, 237 Railroad Ave., Waverly, Va., Mr. James I. Gay, funeral director.
