VERNELL P. MOSS Obituary
Mrs. Vernell Priscilla Moss, affectionately known as "Momma/GaGa", 68, of 1373 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, was given her angel wings on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA.
She was born on February 5, 1950 in Virginia, to Delores Spicer and Jasper Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Moss; mother, Delores Spicer; brother, Keith Spicer; and grandparents, Lacy and Virginia Crenshaw.
Vernell was the true definition of a "Queen". She was always loving, caring and giving. She always gave of herself and epitomized beauty, style and grace. She was known in the neighborhood as "Momma", and was loved by everyone she came in contact with. Vernell fed any and everyone who was hungry and gave out of pure kindness. She always had a smile and was willing to help others.
Vernell enjoyed cooking, singing, watching her "Westerns" and spending time with her family. As the matriarch of the family, she instilled morals, values, and the importance of loving one another and keeping everyone together. Vernell gave tirelessly of herself to everyone even on days when she wasn't feeling well herself.
Vernell was a beautiful person who loved life and others. She loved driving her Ford F-150, which she called her "Big Boy Toy". She created a lifetime of memories and will forever be cherished.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, one devoted Cheryl Casey (Rodney) of Petersburg, VA, Voncie Grant (Robert) and Shelcie Lawing (William) both of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Olajuwon Johnson, Chiquita Casey, Khalil Casey, Sr., Maya Towers, William Lawing III, and Myles Lawing; eight great-grandchildren, Omariyah Davis, Ariona Davis, McKenzie Casey-Jones, Khalil Casey, Jr. Jay'Asia Davis, Ja'Khyiah Davis, Carter Towers, and Brian Mason, Jr.; godson, Gene Parker III; two brothers, Carlton Spicer (Carla), and Michael Johnson (Karen); one devoted sister, Adriane Clark (Shawn) of Baltimore, MD; two nieces, one devoted, Bishelya Hooper (Willie) of Petersburg, VA, and Lamia Spicer of California; two devoted nephews, Deron Spicer and Rashad Spicer both of Petersburg, VA; seven great-nephews and one great-niece; aunt, Spring Trotter (Anthony) of Petersburg, VA; uncle, Ronald Crenshaw (Margaret) of Atlanta, GA; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
