On Saturday, Jan. 12, 20113, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called home from labor to reward our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Virginia S. Reese. She was affectionately known as Ginger, 84, of 17113 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, Va. She was born on July 15, 1928, to the late Rosa J. Pegram and William Harwell Sr.

She was educated in the Franklin, Va., school system then later moved to the Petersburg area and then to Dinwiddie, where she resided with her devoted son, Samuel Reese, until her death. Virginia was a member of Friendship Congregation Church of God, where she served as a missionary and also an elder of the church. Some of her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren and going to church until her health declined.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by three brothers, William Hartwell Jr., Willie G. Pegram and George Pegram, and sister-in-law, Martha Pegram. She will surely be missed by her quiet spirit and loving smile.

She is survived by her devoted son, Samuel "Billy" Reese (Thelma) of Dinwiddie; two daughters, Marjorie Reese (Sonny) of Norfolk, Va., and Shirley Johnson of Chicago; two sisters, Margaret Thorpe and Eula Greenwood of Dinwiddie; one brother, John Pegram of Petersburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Daryl Reese (Lakisha) of Emporia, Va., Andre and Crystal Reese of Dinwiddie, Va., Laytona and Derrick Reese of Norfolk, Va.; a sister-in-law, Martha Pegram of Jarratt, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, too numerous to name; two devoted friends, Elder Lucille Clark and Pastor Mattie Ryles of Friendship Congregation Church of God.

She will surely be missed by her quiet spirit and loving smile.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Petersburg Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, with Pastor Mattie Rawles officiating and Bishop Buck Craig eulogizing. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Drewryville, Va. The family will assemble at the chapel at 12:45 p.m. on the day of the service. Viewing will be held on Friday Jan. 18, 2013, at the funeral home, where the family will also receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, 804-863-4411. Online condolences and expressions of sympathy can be submitted on our website at
