Deacon Welton "Melvin" Roger Bolden departed this life on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va. He was born March 24, 1937, to the late Estelle Hicks and William Parker and stepfather, William Bolling.
Melvin was a caring man to his family, friends, and whomever he came in contact with along the way. He loved telling jokes, being happy, sitting at the store, and fishing.
He was a member of Easter Baptist Church Waverly, Va., and remained a faithful member until his death. Melvin served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, and member of the Male Chorus. One of his favorite gospel songs to sing and lead was "Old Ship of Zion."
Melvin was preceded in death by his siblings four sisters; Mary and Annie Scott, Geneva McCrae and Savanah Johnson; three brothers, William Parker and Henry and Wallace Bolden.
Welton leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Georginia Bolden; four children, Micheal Cheeks of Charlottesville Va., Marion Davis (Dave) and Virginia Ruffin (Kelvin), all of Waverly, Va., and Tomeka Anderson (Greg) of Lithonia, Ga.; four sisters, Geneva Monroe, Virginia Bolling (David), Estelle Jenkins, and Shirley Smith; devoted goddaughter, Tina Norman (Bennie); adopted daughters, Andriene Woodhouse, Margert Chambliss, Tina Hughes and Sherrie Morgan; a devoted niece, Radell Doss; first cousin, Louise Everson; devoted friends, Vernon Jones and Preston Lowery; twenty grandchildren, twenty-three great grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Welton R. Bolden will be held on Saturday 7, 2017, from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service for Mr. Bolden will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017, 3 p.m. at the Easter Baptist Church , RR 35 Waverly, VA 23890 with Rev. Joseph Williams, Pastor, eulogy, Rev. Dr. C.W. Robbs officiating. Interment will follow in Easter Baptist Church Cemetry.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the residence, 226 Locust Dr. Waverly, Va., and assembling there at 1:45 p.m. day of service.
